In Observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ahead of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a seminar on “𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧: 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞” was held at BRAC University on 𝟏𝟎 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓. The programm
e was jointly organized by ANUKUL and the BRAC University Law Society – BULS to raise awareness about the escalating risks of online harassment, explore effective legal and preventive interventions, and discuss ways to strengthen the justice system to ensure that women are not left vulnerable in cyberspace.
The session was moderated by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐚 𝐑𝐚𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐧, Professor, School of Law, BRAC University, and Adviser of ANUKUL, followed by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐧𝐢𝐦 𝐍𝐮𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐳𝐚, Lecturer, School of Law, BRAC University, and Co-Adviser of BULS.
Three distinguished guest speakers attended and shared their insights during the programme.
𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 Rashna Imam, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Managing Partner of Akhtar Imam and Associates, delivered an insightful discussion on “Confronting Digital Violence Against Women in Public Life: Challenges Faced by Activists, Lawyers, and Politicians.”
Barrister Tasnuva Shelley, Additional Attorney General for Bangladesh, spoke on “Sexual Harassment in the Digital Sphere: Understanding the Issue and the Challenges in Seeking Justice.”
𝐀𝐝𝐯. 𝐑𝐚𝐟𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐥 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐦, Public Prosecutor, Cyber Tribunal, Dhaka, shared valuable perspectives on “The Law, the Procedure, and the Tribunal: Examining the Judicial Path of Online Harassment Cases.”
The programme concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Tasnim Nusrat Reza. A Token of Appreciation was then presented to the honourable guests by Md. Jahidul Islam, Founder and President of ANUKUL; Shahriar Mahbub Joy, President of BULS; and Sreya Zabin, Member of the Governing Body, ANUKUL.
