Odhikar’s Programme (Enforced Disappearance)

A team from ๐€๐๐”๐Š๐”๐‹ participated in a discussion programme organized by ๐Ž๐๐ก๐ข๐ค๐š๐ซ, a human rights organization, in observance of the ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐•๐ข๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐„๐ง๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐œ๐ž๐ ๐ƒ๐ข๐ฌ๐š๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ฌ. During the discussion, the legal aspects of enforced disappearances were addressed. Moreover, the victims shared their experiences by creating a space of empathy and truth. For the ANUKUL team, this was a valuable learning opportunity to better understand the lived experiences of human rights defenders while also engaging with Odhikarโ€™s ongoing activities and their 10 demands.

๐“๐ก๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ ๐๐ž๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง๐œ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐ž:

  1. Independent, impartial, and transparent investigation into all cases of enforced disappearances.
  2. Formulation of a national strategy and policy to trace the disappeared persons.
  3. Withdrawal of false cases filed against returned victims.
  4. Issuance of a Certificate of Absence and ensuring compensation.
  5. Enactment of a Witness and Victim Protection Law.
  6. Repeal or amendment of the Anti-Terrorism Act 2009.
  7. Abolition of RAB (Rapid Action Battalion).
  8. Bringing those who destroyed evidence of enforced disappearances under justice.
  9. Ensuring a speedy and fair trial process.
  10. Implementation of ICPPED (International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance) and strengthening forensic capacity.

The program concluded with a human chain by symbolizing unity and our collective call for justice and a future free from enforced disappearances.
