On the occasion of International Human Rights Day 2025 (10 December), the human rights organization Odhikar organized a discussion meeting to examine the prevailing human rights situation in Bangladesh.

A delegation from ANUKUL (Action for Non-Violence, Upliftment, Kindness and Universal Love Society) participated in the discussion, consisting of ๐Œ๐. ๐‰๐š๐ก๐ข๐๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐ˆ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐š๐ฆ, Founder and President of ANUKUL, and ๐Š๐ข๐ฆ๐ข๐ฒ๐š ๐’๐š๐›๐š, Member of the Governing Body.

The meeting was moderated by ๐“๐š๐ฌ๐ค๐ข๐ง ๐…๐š๐ก๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐š, Campaign and Advocacy Director of Odhikar, and brought together speakers from diverse professional and experiential backgrounds. Speakers from diverse backgrounds came together to share their experiences from the previous regime and to discuss the current human rights situation.

Key speakers included ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐…๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐€๐ก๐ฆ๐ž๐ ๐’๐ก๐ข๐›๐ฅ๐ข, Member of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances; ๐’๐š๐ข๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐‘๐ž๐ณ๐š ๐“๐š๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ค๐๐ž๐ซ, Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal; ๐…๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ž๐ซ ๐€๐ฆ๐›๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐š๐๐จ๐ซ ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐จ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐™๐š๐ฆ๐š๐ง, a survivor of enforced disappearance and Founder of United for the Victims of Enforced Disappearance (UVED); ๐€.๐’.๐Œ. ๐๐š๐ฌ๐ข๐ซ ๐”๐๐๐ข๐ง ๐„๐ฅ๐š๐ง, Director of Odhikar, along with other human rights defenders and advocates.

During the discussion, ๐Œ๐. ๐‰๐š๐ก๐ข๐๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐ˆ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐š๐ฆ, Founder of ANUKUL, addressed the issue of gender-based violence, highlighting it as the worldโ€™s most widespread human rights violation. He shared ANUKULโ€™s ongoing initiatives and advocacy efforts aimed at preventing domestic violence and supporting survivors, reaffirming the organizationโ€™s commitment to promoting dignity, safety, and justice for women and girls.


The discussion concluded with a collective call for the protection of human rights, justice for victims, and the establishment of a democratic and accountable state system in Bangladesh.
