Residential Training Programme on ‘Documentation and Fact-Finding on Torture’

A team from ANUKUL, consisting of ๐Œ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ญ๐š๐ก๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐‰๐š๐ง๐ง๐š๐ญ ๐๐จ๐๐ž๐ž, Head of Quality Assurance; ๐‰๐š๐ง๐ง๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐…๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐š, Head of Project and Resource Mobilization; and ๐…๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ง ๐€๐ณ๐š๐, Acting Coordinator of the Research and Innovation Department, successfully completed a Residential Training programme on โ€œ๐ƒ๐จ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐š๐ง๐ ๐…๐š๐œ๐ญ-๐…๐ข๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐จ๐ง ๐“๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐žโ€ held from 17 to 19 October 2025 at the Hope Center in Savar, Dhaka. The programme was jointly organized by Odhikarย  and OMCT to equip participants with foundational knowledge and practical skills for effective documentation and fact-finding in cases of torture, as well as to raise awareness about the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT).

The firstย  day commenced with two sessions-ย 

๐Œ๐. ๐’๐š๐ณ๐ณ๐š๐ ๐‡๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐š๐ข๐ง, Member of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, discussed general concepts of human rights and human rights conventions; followed by ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐’๐š๐ข๐ซ๐š ๐‘๐š๐ก๐ฆ๐š๐ง ๐Š๐ก๐š๐ง, Secretary of Odhikar and Professor of Law at BRAC University, who addressed CAT, OPCAT, and relevant Bangladeshi laws.

Day 2 focused on documentation, fact-finding methods, and advocacy, led by Taskin Fahmina and ASM Nasiruddin Elan, combining lectures, role-plays, and group presentations. Participants practiced interviewing techniques and learned strategies for evidence-based human rights advocacy. Day 3 highlighted practical experiences shared by local human rights defenders, who discussed real-life cases of torture and enforced disappearances across Bangladesh.
